Eagles successes at our first 1* Event .....

On Saturday 18th January 2020 we held our very first open tournament, which was a 1* (first tier of competition). There were 79 players over 13 events and 152 matches all held at Emerson Park School. What a great success, no doubt in part to the fantastic helpers on the day.

Eagles players did themselves proud and it was really great to see so many home players reaching the latter stages of the competitions. The following Eagles finished with top three positions:

  • Nikhil Pulikkottil got Gold in Year 4/5 Boys Singles and Doubles
  • Harry Lewis and Jonathan Pearson got Gold in Boys Year 8/9 Doubles
  • Jennifer Towler got Gold in Year 10/11 Girls Doubles
  • George Dives got Silver in Year 6/7 Boys Singles
  • Daniel Hall got Silver in Year 10/11 Boys Singles
  • Alice Atkins got Silver in Year 10/11 Girls Singles
  • Alice Atkins and Francesca Montefusco got Silver in Year 10/11 Girls Doubles
  • Joseph Kearney got 3rd in Year 6/7 Boys Singles
  • Madison Bailey got 3rd in Year 8/9 Girls Singles
  • Jennifer Towler got 3rd in Year 10/11 Girls Single
  • Callum Stone and Freddie Mann got 3rd in Year 8/9 Boys Doubles
  • Daniel Hall and Joe Burgin got 3rd in Year 10/11 Boys Doubles
  • Millie Hutley got 3rd in Year 10/11 Girls Doubles

Certainly a great medal haul for the Eagles. For many this was their first taste of competition and let's hope the first of many more successful competitions.

Thanks to Alan Atkins from Essex County Badminton Association, Ady Munro and our own Kiu Sum, Rob Clark, Patrick McLean-Tattan for running the table so efficiently and to Richard Austin and Sandra Joseph for keeping the spectators and players fed and watered.
